Care Giver Programs
Friendly Visitor

Our volunteers provide companionship and support to the homebound on a regular basis, usually once a week. SHO volunteers are matched with people of similar interests, if possible, and spend about one hour a week visiting elderly or handicapped persons in their homes or healthcare facilities.

Relationships are fostered by these visits and at the volunteer's option may exceed one hour a week. Visits accomplish a weekly safety check and can be as encompassing as the volunteer and the individual agree to.

Transportation Drivers Our volunteers take individuals to medical appointments, hospital visits, and an occasional errand by appointment. Please provide 1 week's notice, so that we might better serve you.
TeleCare

TeleCare provides a "friendly chat", a "safety check" call, or a call to remind a person to take medication. The volunteer's role is to give the person a sense of security and a feeling that someone cares. The phone call can add a whole new dimension to the elderly person's life. It is something to look forward to. Peer contact is comforting and reassuring.

The volunteer will call at an agreed upon time, generally once or twice a week, but it can be more often.

Minor Home Repairs Volunteers with various talents are registered with SHO. The volunteer is selected based on your need to help fix minor problems around the home. Neighbor helping neighbor to fix a leaky faucet, change a light bulb, do basic carpentry or other basic maintenance functions that are beyond your ability.
Respite Care Provide relief to family members or primary caregivers of the elderly, homebound due to injury or illness, and special needs individuals.

If you are interested in receiving one of these free services, please call SHO  at (401) 789-2362 or e-mail us at seniors-rsvp@netsense.net
