INTERNET RESOURCES FOR SENIORS The following is a
list of resources available on the Internet that may be of interest to Seniors: AARP
http://www.aarp.org/ The information on this site changes regularly. You
can sign up for an e-mail notification when the information changes. Access
America for Seniors
http://www.seniors.gov/ The web site for seniors to conduct business with
and get information from the government. This is an excellent resource site. There are links
to request a new 1099 form, a confirmation of benefits or to compute your
own benefits from social security. You can also follow links to notify the post
office of a change of address and to look up a zip code. Administration
on Aging http://www.aoa.dhhs.gov/ This site has AOA fact sheets you can print
about a variety of subjects, press releases, retirement and financial planning
info and International Year of Older Persons info. The information on this site
can also be accessed in Spanish. Alzheimer's Association, Rhode Island Chapter http://www.alz-ri.org Alzheimer's Association of Rhode Island home page.
If you click on the "Caregivers" tab at the top of the page you can
access lists of nursing home and assisted living facilities that have
Alzheimer's units. ATAP-Assertive
Tech Access Partnership http://www.doa.state.ri.us/voc/assistiv.htm This is the Tech Access web site. It tells about
the program and provides links to other relevant sites. Department
of Veterans' Affairs http://www.va.gov/ Directory
of Prescription Drug Patient Assistance Programs
http://www.phrma.org/patients This site lists all drug companies that have
free medication programs. If you click on a particular company you can access
eligibility requirements and contacts. Elder Care RI http://www.eldercarcri.com/ It is unclear what organization
or individual runs this site. It has lists of information such as lists of adult
day centers, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The information is
similar to what is in the pocket manual. It also provides links to other
organizations of interest.
Healthfinder
http://www.healthfinder.gov/ Under the "Just for
You" heading you can click on seniors to link to health information for
seniors on various topics. If you access http://www.healthfinder.gov/healthcare you can link to information such as a guide to choosing a nursing home and state
long term care profiles reports.
Medicare
http://www.medicare.gov
Contains the Medicare Compare
database to compare health plans and the Nursing Home Compare to compare nursing
homes. There is a commonly asked questions section and publications to download.
The information is also available in Spanish and Asian languages.
National
Council on Aging (NCOA)
http://www.ncoa.org/ NCOA homepage. Contains information about current events and research in the field of aging. You can also subscribe to their mailing list. National
Institute on Aging (NIA)
http://www.nih.gov/nia Research information, can order health publications on-line about a
variety of topics. This is the Rhode Island Department of Health home page. It has information on health issues. Resource list for
